A complete shutdown is being observed across the Valley against the Kounsarnag Yatra today.
The shutdown call was given by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
All shops, business establishments, government offices are closed and public transport is off the roads.
The authorities have deployed police and paramilitary forces at vital places to stop protests.
A controversy had erupted after some Kashmiri Pandits wanted to go for a pilgrimage to Kausarnag Lake from Kulgam side but the separatist leadership claimed this Yatra could damage the natural water resources of the Valley.
