Third seeded Simona Halep cruised into the quarter-finals of the French Open after registering a straight-sets victory over Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain here on Monday.
Halep defeated 21th seeded Navarro 6-1, 6-1 on Court Philippe Chatrier in a match that lasted for an hour.
Though the Romanian led 6-5 in the overall head-to-head between the two coming into the match, she had never previously beaten the Spaniard on clay.
However, all that changed on Monday, as the 25-year-old struck 19 winners in the game to return to the last eight for the second time in her career.
She will now play either Elina Svitolina of Ukraine or qualifier Petra Martic from Croatia for a place in the semi-finals.
