Congress president Sonia Gandhi unfurled the party flag at All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters on Monday as the party celebrates its 131st Foundation Day.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi missed the event.
Besides Sonia Gandhi, AICC members and senior party MPs, MLAs, invited guests and party workers attended a host of functions scheduled at the party headquarters here.
The Congress party headquarter has been decked up for the occasion and massive security arrangements have been put in place.
Meanwhile, the state units of the Congress will also celebrate the party's foundation day today with a series of events during which floral tributes will be paid to the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and other Congress stalwarts.
