Southern Stars skipper Fields 'pretty gutted' at side's women's Ashes series loss

Australian women's cricket team captain Jodie Fields has said that she is 'gutted' after her side failed to retain the Ashes urn by losing in the second Twenty20 game in Southampton, leaving the hosts to win the women's series.

According to News.com.au, although the Southern Stars entered the series as the No.1 side in all formats of the game, England rallied on their home turf to regain the Ashes, while being ten points to four with one match still to be played.

The report said that England secured the series with a five-wicket win in the second T20 match at the Rose Bowl, adding that Australia had needed to win that match and the final T20 at Durham to draw the series and retain the Ashes.

Stating that she is 'pretty gutted', Fields said that they are all the more disappointed as they saw it as their responsibility to work hard to bring the Ashes home especially after the men's side lost in the same series.

According to Fields, they need to have a 'good hard look' at themselves as a team and find out where they can improve, although she added that she is confident that Australia can again be a fighting team in the return series in January.

Meanwhile, England captain Charlotte Edwards admitted that she is shocked at her team's dominant performance given that they had dropped the opening one-day match at Lord's by 27-runs and had lost the T20 World Cup final to Australia last year, with the report adding that England has held the urn for the first time since 2009.
