A local court sent Rajasthan Royals cricketer Ajit Chandila, accused of spot fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), to police custody for three days on Monday.
Delhi Police told court that Chandila was required to corroborate evidence collected from other accused in the Indian Premier League (IPL) scam. The court directed the police to produce Chandila on June 20.
"Court finally disposed the application and sent Ajit Chandila to three-day police custody. He will be produced (in the court) on 20th June. The court as also adjourned the bail application of other accused on 22nd (June), which was slated for hearing on 20th June, after my plea," said Chandila's counsel, R. S. Jhakhar.
The court also postponed hearing on bail application of other five accused to June 22.
Earlier, the IPL, was embroiled in controversy last month when police arrested three cricketers - Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and his Rajasthan Royals team mates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila - on suspicion of taking money to concede a fixed number of runs.
The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) N. Srinivasan, was forced to step aside from his post after police arrested his son-n-law Gurunath Meiyappan in connection with illegal betting IPL.
