Sprinters from across globe converge in Bangalore to run Tata marathon

Sprinters from across the globe congregated in IT hub Bangalore to participate in the annual marathon on Sunday organised by the tech-giant, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Limited.

Some of the finest track and field athletes from all over the world ran at the seventh edition of TCS World 10K Bangalore 2014 marathon, the world's premier 10 thousand meter run.

Bollywood actor John Abraham, who was thrilled by the grandeur of the event, flagged off the marathon.

Over 25,000 runners participated in the TCS World 10K marathon with enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, Abraham said being a brand ambassador of Standard Charted Mumbai marathon, the TCS event took him by surprise after witnessing energized and sporting people of Bangalore.

"I am feeling god to be a part of such a great event. The audience of Bangalore is very energetic. I am very stunned and impressed after seeing the TCS 10K marathon," Abraham said.

The marathon comprised of five categories: World 10k for elite men, World 10k for elite women, senior citizen run, wheel chair and an open run.

Maintaining the tradition, Kenyans continued to dominate the TCS World 10K Bangalore run and in the elite men's category, Alex Korio Oloitiptip of Kenya finished first.

Kenyan champion Oloitiptip said that he had been training himself for the event and followed a strict physical exercise schedule.

"The conditions were very warm but for me I had trained well so I knew that I will try to give my best and it was best run," he said.

The event witnessed 43 corporate with 53 teams, over 350 charity fundraisers and more than 7500 donors.

The winners in the World 10K men's category received Rupees 200 thousand while women's category champions received Rupees 150 thousand each.
