Expressing concern over the murders of three policemen in Srinagar in a militant attack, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday called on the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti-led Government to move quickly to reassure residents and visitors of Srinagar.
"The attacks on policemen in Srinagar is a worrying development. Condolences to the families of those who've died," he tweeted.
"The govt needs to move quickly to reassure residents of Srinagar and visitors," he added.
Hours after two police personnel were killed in a militant attack on Srinagar's Zadibal police station, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) post in Tengpora was targeted by the terrorists today, leaving one jawan dead.
Sources said that the rifle of the slain jawan was also taken away by the assailants.
The security forces have now spread in the area and are on the lookout for the assailants. They have cordoned off the area while presence of some armored trucks could also be seen.
The Indian Army condemned the attack and assured its cooperation.
Earlier, Assistant Police Inspector Mohammad Bhatt and constable Bashir Ahmed were killed in the attack. Two other cops are said to be critical.
This comes a week after two militants were killed in two separate encounters with the security forces in Shopian and Kupwara districts of Kashmir.
