The Public Sector Undertaking's under the Ministry of Steel handed over a cheque of Rs. 5 crore to the Union Minister of Steel Beni Prasad Verma, towards Chief Minister's Relief Fund, for those affected by flash floods in Uttarakhand.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Steel, the PSUs under the ministry namely NMDC, SAIL, RINL and MOIL have contributed Rs. 2.5 crore, Rs. 1 Crore, Rs.75 Lakhs and Rs. 75 Lakhs respectively. In addition to the above, KIOCL, another PSU under the Ministry of Steel contributed a total of Rs. 50 lakh comprising one day salary of KIOCL employees of Rs. 24 lakh and Rs. 26 lakh from its own funds.
Beni Prasad Verma expressed his condolence over the loss of life caused by the disaster. He also assured that the Nation and the Ministry of Steel in particular, assured continuing support and assistance to the state towards the relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected people.
The contributions made today are in addition to other CSR and sustainability activities to be undertaken by the Central Public Sector Enterprises under the Ministry of Steel in the calamity affected areas.
The cheque was handed over in the presence of D.R.S. Chaudhary, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Joint Secretaries of the Ministry and CMDs of PSUs under the Ministry. Sunnel Kumar Mutto, Chief Resident Commissioner of Uttarakhand, was present on the occasion to receive the cheque on behalf of the State Government.
Heavy rains started on June 14 causing flash floods and landslides in Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts, enroute to Himalayan shrines Badrinath , Kedarnath and Yamunotri in the state of Uttarakhand.
