Task force meeting to resolve impasse in Nepal parliament ends inconclusively

A meeting of the task force formed by Nepal's ruling and opposition parties to end the House disruption ended inconclusively on Tuesday.

Held at Singha Durbar, the meeting was to discuss the issue of who should claim credit for providing relief money to earthquake victims which has been creating a rift between the ruling parties and the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC), reports the Himalayan Times.

Following the dispute, Nepali Congress and the ruling parties on Monday had formed the task force to settle the issue at the earliest.

Nepali Congress leaders Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Prakash Sharan Mahat and Chin Kaji Shrestha, Subas Chandra Nembang and Bhim Rawal of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist(CPN-UML), Krishna Bahadur Mahara of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre and Dilnath Giri of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal are in the task force.

Nepali Congress, the largest political force in the legislative body for the past few days has been obstructing the Parliament meeting demanding that Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli led-government provide a lump sum of Rs 200, 000 to earthquake victims to rebuild their houses.
