Terrorism remains 'most pervasive challenge' to international security: Parrikar

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday asserted that terrorism remains the most pervasive and serious challenge to international security.

Addressing the 19th Asian Security Conference here, Parrikar said developing a coordinated global response is of the highest priority.

"Terrorism remains pervasive challenge to international security, developing coordinated global response is very important," he said.

He further said terrorism is undoubtedly the single biggest threat to international peace and security, adding that both Afghanistan and India have been victims of proxy war for decades now.

Afghanistan's National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar who was also speaking at the conference, highlighted that his country shares border with Pakistan which has the highest concentration of terrorists.

"We share the region with Pakistan, which has the highest concentration of terrorists anywhere. Despite international investment in counter terrorism, terrorism is growing its capabilities and presence in Afghanistan-Pakistan region," Atmar added.
