Fourteen-time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal has insisted that things are going very well for him at the moment and he is very happy.

The Spaniard consolidated his flying start to the clay-court season by taking a record-extending fifth Madrid Open title on Sunday, battling past an impressive Dominic Thiem to win 7-6(10-8) 6-4.

Nadal, who ended a seven-match losing streak against World No. 2 Novak Djokovic in their semi-final on Saturday, was given a much sterner test by Thiem than in last month's final of the Barcelona Open.

"I am going to every tournament trying to give my best, being aware that if things are done right, as I have done this year, I will have confidence and confidence in myself. Things are going very well and I'm very happy, "Nadal was quoted as saying by the tournament's website.

"I'm very happy about how things are going. I won three trophies on the ground this year. They are very important tournaments for me. And winning here, with the public on my side, has been very special," he added.

Nadal disposed of Djokovic for his first win over the Serb for three years on Saturday and victory saw him level Djokovic's record of 30 Masters Series titles.

The 30-year-old had a special recognition for Thiem who has been his rival in the last two finals.

"I am convinced that Thiem will be a candidate to win big tournaments in the following years. He has already reached a Masters 1000 final and is sure to play more," he said.
