Microsoft finally announced its new chief executive as Satya Nadella after a six-month-long flood of speculations and rumours. However, not many would be aware of this Hyderabad-born electronics engineer, who has served for a period of 22 years at the software giant.

The 46-year-old has previously headed Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise group and is only the third chief executive to be appointed in the company's nearly forty-decade-old history.

According to PC World, apart from being associated with Microsoft for a long time and heading the cloud unit, Nadella is credited with transforming Windows Live Search into Bing, which now provides the informational backbone to a wide range of Microsoft services.

Nadella, in his first email to Microsoft employees as their new boss, admitted that computing is moving beyond the PC and called for more innovation as the industry didn't respect tradition but innovation in a software-powered world.

Despite driving focus on software, Nadella still believed that Microsoft is also now a player in the hardware business.

Trying to decode himself in his own words, Nadella wrote in his letter that many who know him also defined him by his curiosity and thirst for learning.

Another aspect of Nadella's personality as the CEO includes founder Bill Gates taking up the role of his mentor in helping him shape Microsoft's technology and product direction.

The report added that unlike other potential competitors for the top job, including Stephen Elop, Alan Mulally, Tony Bates, etc., Nadella doesn't have prior experience at a CEO, though the divisions he oversaw at Microsoft generated far more revenue than most companies could ever dream of.
