The Bharaitya Janata Party on Thursday demanded the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister K. Siddaramaiah over the failure the law and order in the state and the escalating tension over the Tipu Sultan row.
"The state government has failed to reign in murderers walking lose and people have now begun receiving death threats and are losing their live. Will Sonia Gandhi go to Karnataka and protest against this? Will she take out a march with the Congress?," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told the media here.
He demanded Siddaramaiah's resignation saying that he has consistently failed to manage law and order in the state.
Playwright Girish Karnad and BJP MP from Kodagu district in Mysore, Pratap Sinha have received death threats for their comments on Tipu Sultan.
Protests against the state-sponsored celebrations have led to violence in Karnataka where a VHP activist succumbed to his injuries.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has been protesting against the Congress government's decision to honour Tipu Sultan, who according to them was a tyrant who persecuted Hindus and Christians and have called for a state-wide bandh in Karnataka tomorrow.
