Flood warning has been issued in the low lying areas near Cauvery river in Salem district of Tamil Nadu.
The South west monsoon has brought in heavy rain in catchment areas of Cauvery river.
As the water level is rising, more than 6,000 cusecs of water is being released from KRS and 2,500 cusecs of water is being released from Kabini dam in Karnataka.
Water is gushing out through Hogenekkal falls as inflow into Cauvery has increased.
The Salem district administration has issued flood warnings to nine villages including Cauverypuram, Chinna Mettur,West Konur.
People are being advised not to bathe in Cauvery river and allow cattle to graze in river beds as water may gush in suddenly.
As per reports, the water inflow into Mettur Dam in Salem has increased to 9,048 cusecs because of rain in catchment areas in Karnataka.
