Indian superstar Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet Ek Prem Katha is reportedly making waves in the international markets. Spurred on by the incredible Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan initiative (Clean India Movement), the film has touched nerves with audiences across continents.
Releasing in well over 70 countries in the foreign markets, a first for an Akshay Kumar starrer, Toilet Ek Prem Katha is all set to make the deepest inroads in markets across the globe.
Besides the conventional North America, UK and UAE markets, Toilet Ek Prem Katha will also be tapping into relatively newer markets like Chile in South America all the way to Greece, Czech Republic, Hungary, Malta, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia in Europe, a first for a Bollywood film. The film is releasing in 22 countries in Europe.
While on a promotional tour to spread the message of the film, Akshay Kumar said, "It is heartening to see such an unprecedented response coming from the overseas markets for a film set in rural India having an intrinsic Indian issue at its core. We are very excited about its worldwide release comes August 11."
There seems to be a clear demand for the film from even the non-diaspora audience. With countries like Japan holding multiple screens and even Malta witnessing its first Bollywood release, Toilet Ek Prem Katha not only seems Akshay's largest release in terms of countries but also the most anticipated, globally.
Shibasish Sarkar, COO Reliance Entertainment said: Toilet Ek Prem Katha is one of our most ambitious films through our Plan C venture with Neeraj Pandey. The kind of response the film is garnering globally is remarkable in both traditional and non-traditional markets."
The film had garnered enough steam in the international markets with the cast of the film flagging off the promotions in London, England. Prerna Arora and Arjun N. Kapoor of Kriarj Entertainment said: "With our film Rustom starring Akshay Kumar being widely accepted and loved across the world, we were emboldened to go for a bigger and more aggressive release worldwide. Our resolve has only been strengthened with interest coming from non-traditional markets and even countries where we are now releasing a Hindi film for the first time. I am glad to have a supportive and encouraging partner in Reliance Entertainment and of course the dynamic Akshay Sir backing us."
Toilet Ek Prem Katha is directed by Shree Narayan Singh, best known for his work editing smash hits such as Baby (2015), M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016) and Rustom(2016), and co-produced by dream team Neeraj Pandey and Akshay Kumar himself. The ensemble of cast is led by Akshay Kumar, who is joined by Bhumi Pednekar (Dum Laga Ke Haisha),Anupam Kher (Bend It Like Beckham, Silver Lining Playbook) - to condense a star-studded cast.
