Toll suspension across all National Highways, which is ending Thursday midnight, has now been extended till December 2 midnight.
Informing people about the decision, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari today posted on his Twitter handle: "Toll suspension is extended till 2nd December midnight across all National Highways."
The decision was taken to ensure smooth traffic movement across all national highways after demonetisation.
Meanwhile, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said the collection of toll across all toll plazas will begin from the midnight of December 2.
The NHAI said with the help of various banks, including SBI, swipe machines have been installed at various toll plazas for the payment of toll, which can also be done in cash.
Besides, old Rs. 500 will be accepted till December 12.
Travellers can also use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology operated FASTag for the payment of toll. They will also get 10 percent discount on payment through FASTag.
The toll suspension for all national highways across the country has been extended till midnight of November 18.
On November 14, with an aim to cope up with the chaos after demonetisation, the government had extended the exemption of fee collection on all booths at National Highways till November 14.
The government said that the decision has been taken in order to avoid difficulties that may be faced by the commuters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 announced demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 rupee currency notes in a major assault on black money and corruption.
