Huge quantities of toxic white froth was yet again spotted in Bengaluru's Bellandur Lake on Thursday morning, raising serious concerns about the water body's degradation.

The polluted water emanated a foul stench, causing discomfort to city dwellers.

"It is increasing day by day. The residents are facing a lot of problems. After six in the evening, you cannot stand in this place because of mosquitoes," said Srinivas Reddy, a resident.

Last month, panic had gripped Bengaluru residents when they discovered that the foam in Bellandur Lake had caught fire.

In April, the toxic froth spouting from the city's Varthur Lake had spilled on to the roads, inflicting a visitor's jam.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had at that time blamed the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for the incident, alleging that the latter has not constructed any Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) for the waste water going into the Varthur Lake.
