United President Trump on Tuesday ended an Obama-era program that allowed some undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children to work and live legally.

"The program, known as DACA that was effectuated under the Obama administration, is being rescinded," the New York Times quoted Attorney General Jeff Sessions as saying to reporters.

He said the United States should set and enforce a limit on how many immigrants to should be allowed each year as all of them can't be allowed.

Earlier, United States President Donald Trump asked the Congress to get ready to do their job on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).

"Congress, get ready to do your job - DACA!" Trump tweeted.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson on Monday said that his state will sue United States President Donald Trump if he ended the DACA programme.

Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Paul Ryan had urged President Donald Trump to hold off on scrapping Obama-era DACA program as he gave a major boost to legislative efforts to preserve protections for young undocumented immigrants.

The DACA program was formed through executive order by former President Barack Obama in 2012 and allows some undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children to work and live legally.

The Obama administration program, known as DACA, allows some undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children to work and live legally.

Some 800,000 people are protected under the DACA program.

Trump had campaigned against DACA and vowed to end Obama-era program if elected but has so far not made any decision about it.
