United States (US) President Donald Trump has been told by the United Kingdom (UK) that he must not meet Brexit architect and former U.K. Independence Party leader Nigel Farage during his visit to the Island nation later this month.
A source within the British government told The U.K. Daily Telegraph that Trump has been asked by the UK government that he "must not meet Farage" when he arrives for a working visit on July 13, as reported by Fox News.
Though Farage declined to comment on his conversations with the White House, he remarked that the Telegraph report was "utterly consistent" with the UK government.
"The one thing they do not want me doing is having a photograph with the U.S. president when he's in London with both of us saying 'Brexit is a great idea, why doesn't the government just get on with it?'"
He also said that Britain's directive regarding his meeting with Trump suggested skepticism for both Farage and Trump.
"I think they're nervous about what Trump is going to say about NATO, about Brexit. I think they're very nervous indeed," said Farage.
It should be noted that Trump has publicly praised Farage on several occasions, most notably right after getting elected as the 45th President in 2016, when he dubbed him as the British Ambassador to the US.
"Many people would like to see @Nigel_Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the United States. He would do a great job!" Trump tweeted.
Trump's visit is slated to be met with protests from left-wing activists, with pressure on Prime Minister Theresa May to cancel the summit due to the recent immigration policies that have caused a separation of children from their families at the US-Mexico border.
