United States President Donald Trump's top aide Kenneth Juster is reportedly set to be named as the new U.S. ambassador to India.
The Washington Post quoted senior administration officials as saying that Juster's impending appointment to represent Washington in New Delhi is a consensus pick that places a top notch India expert in a crucial diplomatic post.
He is currently the Deputy Assistant to President Trump for International Economic Affairs and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council in the United States Government.
Juster's career has spanned over 35 years in government, law, business, finance, and international affairs.
According to a report in the Washington Post, the announcement of Juster's name may not come before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets President Trump on June 26 as he is currently going through a new round of clearances before his appointment can be officially announced.
Ashley Tellis, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said that Juster knows India well and the people there would welcome him enthusiastically as he a known face there.
He also said that Juster was deeply involved in successful bilateral negotiations between the two countries.
