The United States has denied Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan's claims that it was interfering in Pakistan's internal affairs and voiced support for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to the Express Tribune, the U.S. embassy said that Washington had not been involved in discussions between the political parties in Pakistan.

The embassy officials also said that the U.S. had been observing the political situation in Pakistan and had urged Pakitan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to exercise restraint.

The U.S. also made it clear that it would not support any efforts to impose extra-constitutional changes to the democratic government.

The U.S. State department emphasized that Nawaz Sharif is the democratically elected Prime Minister of Pakistan.

PTI chief Imran Khan strongly condemned the U.S for supporting Nawaz Sharif earlier following the State Department's remarks.
