'Under fire' Uber has apologized for hiking its prices during the siege at Martin Place in Sydney that left two people dead.

According to News.com.au, during the early stages of the cafe siege, Uber's fares reportedly jumped fourfold.

The taxi company issued a statement saying that the events of last week in Sydney were upsetting for the whole community and that Uber was truly sorry for any concern that its process may have added.

It further said that the company did not stop surge pricing immediately, adding that it was a wrong decision.
