Unprecedented security for Modi's swearing-in ceremony as India's 15th PM

Unprecedented ground-to-air security cover on par with the Republic Day has reportedly been put in place for the swearing-in ceremony of BJP leader Narendra Modi as India's 15th Prime Minister.

According to media reports, the Delhi Police has ensured that a multi-layered security ring is thrown around Raisina Hills.

All offices around the ceremony venue will be closed five hours before the swearing-in ceremony.

Over 6000 security personnel have been deployed in a five-tier security arrangement for a guest list of between 3000 to 4000 VIPs.

Special security has been put in place for Narendra Modi, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rakpaksa.

Section 144 of the Indian penal Code has been activated in Delhi, while the air defence system has been placed on high alert to secure the skies.

Snipers will be deployed on all high-rise buildings around Raisina Hills. Mobile hit teams, anti-aircraft guns and sharpshooters of National Security Guard (NSG) will also be deployed, besides paramilitary personnel and Delhi Police commandos to secure the area.

Joint Commissioner of Police for the New Delhi Range M.K. Meena said that the entire area around Raisina Hills has been completely sanitised, but added that citizens in the national capital would not be inconvenienced.

Inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the forecourt and lawns have been filled with chairs. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the swearing-in ceremony.

National Security Guard commandos will be responsible for the inner layer of security.

Delhi Police has issued traffic advisory to ensure proper traffic movement to facilitate invitees to reach the venue. General traffic will not be allowed on Rajpath, Vijay Chowk, South and North Avenue Marg, Dalhousie Road and Church Road on Monday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Traffic will also be diverted on some other roads leading to Rashtrapati Bhawan. Offices housed in North and South Blocks and hutments around will be closed after 1 p.m.
