At least 13 people were killed and 20 others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday morning.
The Superintendent of Police said that fire broke out in early morning hours in Goyal Residency hotel and its adjoining restaurant Aryan in Kotwali police station area of Pratapgarh.
According to reports most of the death occurred due to smoke which suffocated occupants of hotel rooms.
The police said that the hotel owner and two others were arrested for interrogation.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has expressed his deep condolence over the loss of lives in the fire incident.
The State Government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those died and Rs 50,00 thousand each for the injured.
