Villagers see ray of hope as PM Modi plans to adopt Kakrahia village

An atmosphere of celebration has clouded Kakrahia village of Uttar Pradesh, as people anticipate its adoption by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to better the bleak situation prevailing in this small abode of over 3,000 people.

The village, which is located at a distance of 20 kilometres from Varanasi, will be visited by the Prime Minister on October 14 after he inaugurates the BHU trauma centre on the same date. He will also be initiating several other programmes related to people's welfare.

The people of the village are looking forward to this development with a lot of anticipation, and have been enthusiastically cleaning up the entire village before the Prime Minister's visit.

"It is being said that the Prime Minister is might be adopting our village. This will be a matter of pride for our village and we are hopeful that the impact of this development will be extremely good on our village," said Manoj Kumar, a resident of Kakrahia.

Kakrahia village is historically known to be the home of wrestlers, who have also represented India internationally at one point of time. Unfortunately, there are not many facilities in the village today to encourage the sport.

There is no one to address the exigencies of the common man of Kakrahia village due to lack of medical facilities and a scope for higher education. But finally there seems to be some ray of hope for the residents of this small village of Uttar Pradesh, and they are looking up to the prime minister to better the conditions there.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana' under which Lok Sabha MPs will choose a village panchayat from within their constituency to ensure overall development of the village.

The scheme, which has been inaugurated on the birth anniversary of social reformer Jaiprakash Narayan, aims to provide access to health, education, sanitation and smart schools to the adopted villages.

The Prime Minister also said that he will be selecting a village for himself very soon.

Inspired by the principles and values of Mahatma Gandhi, the scheme places equal stress on nurturing values of national pride, patriotism, community spirit, self-confidence and on developing infrastructure.
