Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli set a new world record in the one-off Test against Bangladesh here on Friday.

Today's 204 by Kohli was his four Test double hundred in four successive series, which is a new world record.

Kohli constructed his maiden double ton (200) in the West Indies in July 2016 and followed that up with 211 in the next series against New Zealand in Indore in October 2016. In December 2016, Kohli registered his career-best score of 235 against England at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. And on Friday, he achieved a world record with his fourth double hundred (204) against Bangladesh.

The previous best was by Sir Don Bradman of Australia and Rahul Dravid of India, who both struck three double tons in three consecutive series.

In overall terms, Kohli equalled former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar as the only two Indian cricketers to have scored four double tons.

Twenty-eight-year-old Kohli made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011. He averages over 50 with 16 centuries and 14 fifties and is playing in his 54th Test.
