West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who wielded a broom here on Sunday and participated in the 'Swacch Bharat Abhiyan', said there is a need to inspire everyone to be part of this cleanliness initiative.

"This cleanliness campaign is not just about cleaning, it is also about hygiene. By keeping surroundings clean, we can prevent diseases. We need to inspire everyone to be a part of it, this not just a government's scheme," he told the media here.

The 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' was launched nationwide by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2 to focus on sanitation, hygiene and waste management.

It encourages people to sweep, remove garbage, debris and unauthorized encroachments from roads, markets and residential places.

The 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' aims at making India a clean country by 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
