Webber unsure whether 'not a team' Hamilton-Rosberg will remain teammates at Merc

Former Formula One driver Mark Webber has branded Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg as not a team and questioned whether the Brit-German racing duo would remain teammates at Mercedes.

The simmering tension between the title contenders became public when they collided at the Belgian Grand Prix. Webber, who had a bitter intra-team fight with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, said that it is going to be interesting, not just for the rest of the year.

Webber said that at the moment it's not a team and questioned if it would be OK to have Rosberg and Hamilton together in 2015, The BBC reported.

He added that it looks like the drivers are doing their own thing, and questioned if they can drive together in the future.

Webber, who quit Formula One at the end of last season for a career in endurance racing, said that Mercedes were in a very difficult situation where the drivers are not enjoying a good relationship. He added that he was not sure whether Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff and the team's non-executive chairman Niki Lauda would be able to solve the situation.

The Australian said that the thing is who would try and put this back together and questioned if it would be the people who pay Wolff's and Lauda's wages.

Because, he said that at the end of the day, if the drivers are not listening to these guys, do they have to ask Hamilton and Rosberg to go chat to the big guys at Mercedes, because they're paying them to get the job done in a team environment.

Webber questioned Rosberg's motivation in the incident, which occurred when the Mercedes drivers were contesting the lead on lap two at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday.

Webber said that it is a passing move, adding that Rosberg is trying to have a look outside, but it is Hamilton's corner. He said that at this point, just before the contact, the German knows he has no chance to get the move done.
