Whatmore 'hardly bothered' about uncertain fate as Pak coach

Pakistan cricket coach Dav Whatmore has said that he is hardly bothered about his uncertain fate following speculations that he will be removed instantly after his two-year contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expires.

According to the Express Tribune, although Whatmore has coached Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the past with success, but his tenure as Pakistan's coach that began in March 2012 has seen its share of highs and lows, along with the recent poor performances on the South Africa tour and the ICC Champions Trophy.

The report further said that speculations have suggested that the coach, who has seven months remaining until his contract expires, will not get an extension, while simultaneously hinting at a change in guard before the Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20 Championships.

However, Whatmore appears unperturbed by the reports, saying that it has been 'funny' for him reading such reports at this stage, and adding that he is more concerned about the team's performance in the upcoming assignments rather than his future prospects

According to Whatmore, he is looking forward to the tasks that require his expertise until his contract ends, which are the Zimbabwe tour and the home series against South Africa and Sri Lanka in the UAE, adding that he wants to give his best until he remains the coach of Pakistan so that he can sleep easy.

Meanwhile, Whatmore insisted that his side must give their best shot in the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, saying that they cannot afford to be complacent as any untoward result will have a negative and embarrassing impact on their rankings given the difference between the rankings of the two nations.

Whatmore also said that he hoped that Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez would return to his winning form soon given that he has been struggling since the past six months, as he is a core part of the team.
