With power, comes an opportunity to serve: PM Modi to BJP workers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has churned out the possibility of a new and renewed India - an India based on empowerment of the poor and youth workforce encouragement.

Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at the party headquarters here today, PM Modi said that in a democratic setup like India, the government, although formed by a majority vote, is still based on a 'sarvamat' system, implying that the public has a major role to play in governance.

With regards to the party's astounding victory in the recent Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, PM Modi revealed that the victory is a result of several sacrifices and has not been "inherited," adding that the BJP's "Golden era" has now begun.

"I can foresee an India moving towards women empowerment and an India where the poor are now looking for opportunities to uplift themselves. If the burden on the middle class is reduced, they will be able to utilise their complete potentials. Generations of individuals have given their lives to build this party, as a result of which the BJP is now the largest political party in the world," said PM Modi.

With regards to the recently-concluded elections in the five states, PM Modi revealed that the elections are seen as an opportunity to work towards wholesome development, rather than just a political phenomenon.

"Election turnout has increased. In addition to electing governments, elections are also about Lok Shikshan and facilitate the strengthening of the bond between people and a democracy. Development is always a central issue during every election," said an elated PM Modi on the occasion of the centenary year celebrations of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

Echoing similar sentiments, BJP President Amit Shah said that the new government in Uttar Pradesh will focus on the upliftment of the poor and wholesome development of the state.

"The mandate given by the people this time is two steps ahead of the 2014 election mandate. The BJP has finished with 312 seats in the 403-seat UP Assembly. The previous government suffered from policy paralysis, but the BJP will be a government for the poor and marginalised," he said, addressing the party workers.

With regards to the 2019 General Elections, Shah claimed that the party is aiming at garnering even more support for PM Modi.

"BJP's victory run will continue in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. Narendra Modi will return as the prime minister with a bigger mandate in 2019," he added.

Lauding PM Modi's welfare programmes, Shah further said that crores of people have benefited from the schemes and will continue to provide support to more citizens in the foreseeable future.
