In the 21st century, hypertension is considered as a global public health issue.
According to Coronary Artery Disease Index in Asian Indians (CADI), the number of people with hypertension is projected to increase from 118 million in 2000 to 214 million in 2025, with the ailment affecting both men and women. It's the most common lifestyle disease we come across today.
One of the major causes of hypertension is the change in lifestyle patterns, which have been fueled by excessive consumption of salt, processed foods, alcohol and tobacco. If it is not addressed at an early stage, it can lead to health problems such as stroke, kidney failure and even premature death at times.
