Younis says 'not feeling arrogant' on breaking Miandad's record

Veteran batsman Younis Khan, who became Pakistan's highest Test run-scorer surpassing Javed Miandad, has said that he never dreamt of beating the record and added that he would never feel arrogant about it.

Younis surpassed Miandad's tally of 8,832 runs on the opening day of the opening Test of the three-match series against England at Abu Dhabi.

The 37-year-old said that all his runs are primary for Pakistan and everyone should feel proud of it, the Express Tribune reported.

He added that being a senior player would not impose any pressure on him.

Expressing his views on Azhar Ali's exclusion from the team, Younis said the side is not solely dependent on him and skipper Misbah-ul-haq, insisting that every player has made some contribution in the recent victories.

Azhar Ali was ruled out of the second Test following the demise of his mother-in-law. Yasir Shah has been recalled as his replacement.

Lavishing praise on Yasir, Younis said that he had been bowling brilliantly, adding that it would be good to see a leg-spinner making an impact in Test cricket.

Speaking further about their upcoming Test, Younis said that his side would bounce back and try their best to win the series.

Earlier, the opening Test of the three-match series ended with a dramatic draw after England's Adil Rashid claimed a five-wicket haul to dismiss Pakistan for a paltry 173 in the second innings.

The two sides will now lock horns in the second Test on October 22 in Dubai.
