The upcoming Zimbabwe tour of Pakistan is in danger of being called off, after the African nation's cricket board raising security concerns following the spate of terror attacks in that country.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) maintains that talks are still on with the government, while the tour is yet to be confirmed by the country's Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), the regulatory body for all sports, despite fixtures for the two T20s and three-ODI series being released and Zimbabwe naming a 16-member squad.
ZC had initially released a statement saying that a decision had been reached to not tour on the advice of the SRC. However, the statement was later withdrawn and ZC spokesman Lovemore Banda said that 'discussions are still going on', the Dawn reported.
Earlier, reports have emerged that Zimbabwe's authorities were assessing the security situation in Pakistan after 45 people died in a terrorist attack in Karachi on Wednesday.
If the tour goes as per the schedule, Zimbabwe will be the first ICC team to visit Pakistan since March 2009, when the Sri Lankan team was attacked in Lahore.
In light of recent events, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson Shahryar Khan has said that ZC has still not called off the tour and a final decision would be conveyed to the PCB very shortly.
