Packing 650 horses of power and 650 lb-ft of torque, the 2015 Corvette Z06 is General Motors' most powerful car ever built. Showcased at the last year's North American International Auto Show for the first-time, this monster now promises to be United States' fastest production car, in form of both coupe and convertible.

Raising its bar above the old Corvette ZR-1’s 638-hp supercharged V-8, the all-new Corvette Z06 is even more powerful than the V-10 640-hp SRT Viper. Powered by a 6.2-litre LT4 V-8 mill based on the LT1 V-8 of the standard Corvette Stingray, the engine uses the same direct-injection, cylinder deactivation, and the variable valve timing technologies. Although the base is same, but LT4 rates nearly 200 extra horses of power, all thanks to tougher cylinder heads, lighter intake valves made from titanium, special aluminum pistons and the real hero- a 1.7-litre supercharger with an ability to spin up to 20,000 rpm.

Officially certified at the dual 650 mark, the LT4's max. power comes at 6,400 rpm, while the peak torque happens at just 3,600 rpm. The Z06 horsepower graph comes with any enthusiast's dream curve- which keep on heading upwards as-well-as to the right. The car not only offers way better torque than the previous Corvettes, but also a more flexible torque curve for better on-demand power supply at any required rpm. Maximum peak torque, which is about 592 pound-feet, and ranges from 2,500 rpm to 5,400 rpm. With all these monstrous figures, a rear wheel drive is like an icing on the cake. The engine comes mated to transmission options: a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

With this sort of wild numbers, the Z06 stands amongst world's most powerful production cars. And the data release on the engines, is a brief infographic showing the mark of General Motors in the Ferrari and Lamborghini dominated fastest cars list. The first three cars in this list: LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder are limited-production hyper-hybrids.

If the Z06 will be priced competitively, as we all hope its does, then this GM product will surely prove out to be a good bargain. As the manufacturer hasn't released anything official, will have to wait until Chevy sees fit to release pricing, performance specs and so.
