Hyundai has launched an updated version of its premium hatchback, Hyundai Elite i20 with a price tag of Rs. 5.36 lac. The updated car incorporates minor changes and it can be reasoned that this revamp is a move for the Korean automaker to prep-up its offering, so that it may go head-to-head against its formidable competitor, the Baleno hatchback. The 2016 Hyundai Elite i20 will be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo,
alongside rest of the Hyundai lineup. Accompanying the updated Elite i20 will be its souped-up cousin, the Hyundai Elite i20 N hot-hatch. After the introduction of Maruti’s premium hatchback, which managed to receive over 70,000 bookings, the sales of Elite i20’s were gravely hampered.
Hyundai Elite i20 now flaunts projector headlamps, cornering lights and LED DRLs as standard on the Asta(O) models. Unlike the aesthetics, the updated Elite i20 remains mechanically unaltered and continues to incorporate the 90PS, 1.4-litre U2 CRDi DOHC diesel mill and the 83PS, 1.2-liter Kappa dual VVT unit undertakes the powertrain duties in the petrol variants.
It should also be noted that Baleno outshines i20 in terms of its petrol power output but falls short in front of the Korean automaker’s diesel mill and only hopes to redeem itself with its lightweight construction. The spree of updates continue on the inside. The top-end models of Elite i20 update get an Audio Visual Navigation (AVN) system as standard, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity, whereas the lower-end trims incorporate an LCD infotainment screen. To further enhance the safety aspects of the car, Hyundai now offers dual airbags, which come as standard throughout the the variants that lie in the Era-Asta(O) trim range.
