The Japanese car manufacturer, Honda that unveiled the Urban SUV concept earlier this year at the Detroit Motor Show, is under production. The SUV will be launched at the Tokyo Motor Show, and it has just hit the testing circuit at Germany. A full-fledged video of the testing car has also hit the web, clarifies that it is the Honda's Urban SUV on its test rounds ahead of its year end launch.
We all know that Honda is planning to launch an all-new Jazz hatchback, Brio based MPV and a Jazz based compact SUV by the end of 2014. The Urban SUV is based on the 2014 Jazz platform, and will share its most of the components with the hatchback and City sedan. So, this will be Honda's compact SUV to hit the Indian shores by the next year, soon after the introduction of next-generation Jazz, City sedan and Brio based MPV.
The Honda Urban SUV is expected to share its engine and transmission options with the next-generation City sedan, which is likely to hit the Indian shores by the next year Auto Expo. So, the SUV could get a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC turbo diesel engine. For the global markets, the Urban SUV will be more than 4 meter in length, but will be much smaller than the CR-V crossover. We expect that India-bound compact SUV could be a sub-4 metre, however it is early to comment on the same.
The India-bound Honda Urban SUV will be locally developed in our country, and will sport high amount of local car components. The Honda compact SUV will compete against the likes of EcoSport, Duster, Terrano and the upcoming Hyundai's compact crossover. With the compact SUV, Honda will again present the best usage of the company's design philosophy of Man-Maximum Machine-Minimum.
This is all what we have for now, stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the same.
