This year’s Auto Expo is going to be really exhilarating as there will be dazzling news cars and concept coming from across the world to be premiered here. One of the center of attractions would be the new Skoda Superb, which was launched in the European and American markets a year ago. The luxury saloon has always been ‘superb’ in its segment with its jaw-dropping exteriors, interiors and world class engine options. The updated model takes the legacy further.
The new Skoda Superb has been built on the solid foundation of Volkswagen’s new MQB platform that underpins many of the others cars in the family like Passat and Audi A4 sedans. Going by the looks, the new version is sportier, more aggressive and has sharp creases across the body. It is also little bit extended from the earlier version with length increased by 28mm, width by 47mm and the wheelbase by 80mm respectively. The saloon is also 75 kilos lighter than its predecessor and that add’s it to the overall efficiency.
The new Superb this time around hosts a lot of newer technologies which would surely raise the eyebrows of some of the upper segment cars. The sedan sports Bi-xenon headlights with Adaptive front lighting system, LED daytime running lights and standard LED taillamps. The interiors are upped too with new infotainment system based on Volkswagen’s MIB technology that also supports Android Auto and along with Apple CarPlay, 12 speakers, three-zone air conditioning, heated seats, and electrically operated panoramic sunroof, etc.
The all new Skoda Superb doesn’t compromise with the safety features either, for which Skoda cars are known for. Taking the legacy further, the car comes equipped with 9 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Emergency Braking System and tyre pressure monitoring, etc. Other optional safety technologies include Traffic Jam Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Adaptive Cruise control, Fatigue detection and Lane Assist. The sedan has also grabbed 5-stars in Euro NCAP crash tests in all four categories.
Talking about the powertrains, the India bound model would get a 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre TSI petrol units, while the diesel engine would comprise of 2.0 litre TDI. All engines come paired with a dual clutch DSG automatic transmission. The car has been spied on several times while it was being tested in the country. We hope the new Skoda Superb will be launched soon after its showcasing at the Auto Expo.
