Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has honoured Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons, with Life Time Contribution Award for his contribution to the growth and development of the Indian automobile industry. The prestigious award was presented by Mohan Himatsingka, President, FADA. Speaking on the occasion, Mohan Himatsingka said, “Thanks to the vision, determination and pioneering efforts of industry leaders like Ratan Tata, the Indian auto industry has come of age and carved out a niche for itself in global automotive space. The current slowdown notwithstanding, the Indian growth story is making waves all over the world. The automobile retail trade in India owes a lot to Ratan Tata for the leadership and direction provided by him over the years.”
Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) came into existence in the year 1964. It is a national body of automobile dealers engaged in sales, service and spares of two-three wheelers, passenger cars and utility vehicles, commercial vehicles (including both buses and trucks) and tractors in the country. FADA has 1,500 members, including 24 associations of automobile dealers at the regional, state and city levels. The organisation represents over 75 percent of retail automobile trade in India.
“The home-grown OEMs such as Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, and Mahindra & Mahindra are conquering new frontiers across the world. The Indian vehicle manufacturers, backed by a fast developing domestic auto component industry, have risen to the challenge and stood up to the technological and financial might of global auto majors. The fact that Indian automobile companies are giving the global auto giants a run for their money speaks volumes of the engineering and R&D capabilities as well as the managerial acumen and entrepreneurial skills of Indian industry.”
K V S Prakash, Vice President added, “There is no doubt that both Ratan Tata enjoys an iconic status in the Indian industry. His business acumen, ethical business practices and excellent corporate governance track record, have earned him laurels and accolades not only in India but across the globe. Therefore, we are honoured and privileged to present the Life Time Contribution Award to Ratan Tata.”
Just a day earlier to his award presentation, Ratan Tata also visited the manufacturing facility of the famous ‘Jaipur Foot’, an artificial leg, in Jaipur at Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS). He appreciated the fine work done by the foundation and mentioned their success story rests in the simple and low cost technology that enables them to disburse the artificial limb to the poor for free. This shows his contribution just is not limited to automobile, but stretches beyond to more humanitarian causes.
