Auto stocks firm up on Govt's proposal to reduce excise duty

Nine auto stocks rose by 0.09% to 3.06% at 12:29 IST on BSE after finance minister today proposed reducing excise duty for auto sector.

TVS Motor Company (up 3.06%), Escorts (up 3%), Hero MotoCorp (up 2.37%), M&M (up 1.72%), Maruti Suzuki India (up 1.43%), Eicher Motors (up 1.08%), Bajaj Auto (up 0.89%), Ashok Leyland (up 0.64%) and Tata Motors (up 0.09%), edged higher.

The S&P BSE Sensex was up 73.26 points, or 0.36% at 20,440.08.

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, in the interim budget for 2014-15 presented today, 17 February 2014, proposed reducing excise duty for small cars to 8% from 12% earlier.
