Mr. Kumar indicated saying that consultants make adjustments in the current DPR formats without adequately in corporating in them the field data of the site concerned and therefore, after roads and highways are constructed, variations become visible and pronounced in their layout, design, location and even material, substantially reducing the life and nature of infrastructure projects, especially in the northern eastern region.
Addressing a National Roads & Highways Summit under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, Mr. Kumar informed that NHIDCL would be making a detailed presentation to the Ministry of Raod, Transport & Highways sometimes in the next week so that a mechanism is evolved for altered DPRs.
In the altered DPRs, provisions would be worked out incorporate all field data of the site and locations of such projects so that their implementation is restored in latter and spirit.
The corporation is also exploring all possibilities to arrange for technologies so that the work on roads and highways projects in the northern eastern parts is prolonged between 9-10 months in a year as against a current average practice of 5-6 months since the region is rain fed which cause land slides, soil erosion and thus delays the period for roads and highways construction, said Mr. Kumar.
In a bid to encourage local participation for construction of roads and highways projects in the region, the NHIDCL would engage local contractors to build patches of such projects, involving investments between Rs.50 crores to Rs.100 crores, he pointed out adding that the corporation would also raise resources from part of the land to support the roads and highways projects in north east for which the corporation would take some time.
