Nifty September futures trade at premium to spot price

The August 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 8680.85, at a premium of 13.95 points compared with Nifty's closing of 8666.90 in the cash market. The Nifty September 2016 futures traded at 8730.35, a premium of 63.45 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment declined to Rs 3 lakh crore from turnover of Rs 4.88 lakh crore registered yesterday, 18 August 2016.

In the cash market, the Nifty lost 6.35 points or 0.07% to settle at 8,666.90, its lowest closing level since 17 August 2016.

State Bank of India (SBI), Tata Steel, Vedanta, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda and Hindalco Industries (Hindalco) were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in F&O segment of NSE. SBI August 2016 futures traded at 258.70, near spot closing of 258.50. Tata Steel August 2016 futures traded at 392.15, at a premium compared with spot closing of 390.95. Vedanta August 2016 futures traded at 179.25, near spot closing of 178.95.

ICICI Bank August 2016 futures traded at 253.90, matching spot closing of 253.90. Bank of Baroda August 2016 futures traded at 161.40, near spot closing of 160.90. Hindalco August 2016 futures traded at 158.90, near spot closing of 158.70.

The August 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 25 August 2016. The September 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 29 September 2016.
