Nifty May futures trade at premium to spot price

The May 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 7896.05, a premium of 48.80 points compared with Nifty's closing of 7847.25 in the cash market. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) futures and options (F&O) totaled Rs 7.75 lakh crore, higher than turnover of Rs 4.29 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty tumbled 132.65 points or 1.66% to settle at 7,847.25, its lowest closing level since 12 April 2016.

Yes Bank, Reliance Industries (RIL), Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and Tata Steel were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the futures & options (F&O) segment of NSE. Yes Bank May 2016 futures traded at 941.55, at a discount compared with spot closing of 949. RIL May 2016 futures traded at 1001.35, at a premium compared with spot closing of 993.50. Axis Bank May 2016 futures traded at 468.80, at a premium compared with spot closing of 466.15.

HDFC Bank May 2016 futures traded at 1120, at a premium compared with the stock's spot closing of 1112.55. Tata Steel May 2016 futures traded at 350.20, at a premium over spot closing of 347.65.

The May 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 26 May 2016. The April 2016 F&O contracts expired today, 28 April 2016.
