As many as 1,752 cases were registered for drunken driving in the national capital during New Year celebrations, police said on Monday.
"This is the total number of offenders caught before and after midnight," Deependra Pathak, the Special Commissioner of Police, told the media.
Pathak said "high-degree of safety and security" was ensured with thousands of police personnel deployed in different areas across the city.
He said 16,720 challans were issued for all kinds of traffic violations, from Sunday afternoon to late at night.
A total of 3,665 people were prosecuted for driving without helmet.
There were 1,125 cases of one-way road violation, 507 cases of "dangerous" driving and 193 cases of over-speeding.
