Bogota, Nov 25 (IANS/EFE) At least 10 guerrillas were killed by soldiers in a rural area in the Colombian border province of Arauca, a military spokesperson said.
The incident occurred in the province's Fortul area. Two guerrillas were captured in the encounter which took place Sunday. They were rushed to hospital.
The rebels belonged to the "Comrade Castro" unit of the Domingo Lain Front, one of the National Liberation Army's most powerful units.
The front has hundreds of fighters in Arauca, the guerrilla group's main bastion.
The National Liberation Army was founded in 1964 and has some 1,500 fighters.
The group has expressed interest in holding peace talks with officials, but the government made the release of hostages being held by the rebels a condition for any talks.
