Ten people were killed in an overnight fire in Ramban district of Jammu region, police said on Friday.
The fire broke out in Chanderkote camp where construction workers were staying and they died due to asphyxiation and burn injuries, Senior Superintendent of Police Randip Kumar told IANS.
"We have identified five bodies so far. The dead includes earth mover operators, helpers and labourers from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and different places of Jammu and Kashmir," Kumar said.
"The exact cause of fire is being ascertained. I reached the spot immediately after receiving reports about the incident and the fire was brought under control," he added.
