114 students expelled for cheating in Class 12 exams in Bihar

At least 114 students caught cheating in the Class 12 examinations were expelled in Bihar on Tuesday -- the first day of examinations, an official said.

Anand Kishore, the Chairman of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), told the media here that more than 114 students were expelled "for adopting unfair means".

He claimed that they were making all-out efforts to ensure that the examinations were held in a fair manner this time round. "There will be cheating-free exams. We have made arrangements for it."

According to him, mass cheating in Bihar was a thing of the past. "It is not possible now."

However, Kishore said the board had decided not to cancel the Biology paper that was leaked in the social media nearly two-and-a-half hours after the examinations began.

"Nearly a 75,000-strong team, including teachers and policemen, had been deployed to hold free and fair examinations," said an official of the Board.

Besides, the examination centres are being monitored through CCTV cameras.

Nearly 112,07,986 students appeared for the Class 12 exams at 1,384 centres across the state on Tuesday.

Mass cheating has been reported in Bihar for years and has become an annual feature hitting the headlines in February-March every year.

Last year, the Bihar School Examination Board hit the headlines when the Class 12 Arts topper turned out to be a 42-year-old man, who had fudged his age to take the test. Later, he was arrested on charges of fraud.
