At least half a dozen people were Saturday injured in violence during students' union polls in Rajasthan government universities and colleges, police said here. Two vehicles were torched and police tear gased students at one place.
At least half a dozen people were seriously injured when two groups of students clashed in Dausa, some 100 km from Jaipur, while the votes were being cast at a college, a police officer told IANS.
"Some students went on the rampage and torched a bus and a truck after the clash. A group of students barged into the bungalow of Minister of State Murari Lal Meena and damaged property," said the officer.
The students also entered houses in neighbourhoods and misbehaved with women, said the officer.
Police resorted to baton-charge and tear gased the unruly students, the officer added.
Incidents of clashes among groups of students were also reported from Jodhpur, Jalore and other parts of the state, a police officer said.
Heavy police force was deployed in Jaipur while casting of votes at the Rajasthan University campus and constituent colleges.
"We took over 70 students in preventive custody to maintain law and order. We tried to not to allow large gathering of students," said the officer.
