At least 14 people were killed and four others injured in a Taliban coordinated attack at a restaurant frequented by foreigners in Afghanistan capital Kabul Friday night, police said.

Three gunmen armed with suicide bombs and guns were involved in the attack, a police source told Xinhua, adding the attack begun after one person detonated his explosive at the entrance of Lebanese Restaurant around 7:15 p.m.

Two other attackers entered the building and opened fire on people who were having dinner at the two-story restaurant located on street 14 of Wazir Akbar Khan, a diplomatic enclave in Kabul.

"The latest report of the casualties showed 13 to 14 people were killed in the attack," Kabul police chief General Mohammad Zahir Zahir told reporters.

"Several gunshots were fired following the powerful explosion. The sporadic firing lasted until 10 p.m. as police and army special forces were clearing the building," Noor Agha, a witness, said.

Another security official said that four women and 11 men, mostly foreigners, were killed in the attack

The official said one attacker was killed in the suicide bombing while two attackers were gunned down in the counterattack operation.

The Taliban insurgent group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
