Nineteen urban management officers suffered burns in a village in China's Fujian province when sulfuric acid was thrown upon them while trying to demolish an illegal warehouse earlier this week, police said Friday.
Two villagers have been held for their suspected roles in the attack which occurred Wednesday in a village in Xiamen city, reported Xinhua citing the public security bureau.
According to police, it all happened when the urban management officers were removing an illegally erected warehouse and got involved in an argument with the building's owner, a 54-year-old surnamed Shao, and his son.
The father threw a bottle of battery replenisher, which contained sulfuric acid, over the officers, causing burns to their bodies, police added.
