Automobile major Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd on Tuesday said there were about 20,000 bookings for its new multi-purpose vehicle Innova Crysta model within a fortnight of its launch.
"Our new model Innova Crysta got an overwhelming response across the country, with about 20,000 bookings, which will take 2-4 months to deliver," said Toyota Kirloskar Motor's marketing director N. Raja in a statement here.
The Indian joint venture of Japan's global auto major rolled out Crysta on May 14 across the country, in Rs .14-21 lakh price range for diesel version in seven and eight-seat configurations.
The company sold 12,200 cars of different models this month across the country as against 11,511 units over same period year ago, registering six per cent growth.
Export of its Etios series, however, declined to 990 this month from 1,448 units in same month year ago.
The company's sedan Camry sales grew 63 per cent year-on-year, with its hybrid version accounting for 90 per cent of it.
Admitting that the ban on registration of diesel vehicles above 2000cc in the National Capital Region (NCR) was affecting sale of its diesel cars (Fortuner and Innova), Raja said the company was looking forward to a favourable decision.
"As the ban has been affecting our sales over the last six months, we hope the Supreme Court will consider our pleading and lift the ban," he added.
Upholding the National Green Tribunal's order, the apex court on December 16, 2015 banned registration of diesel cars of 2000cc and above (engine capacity) and SUVs from January 1 to March 31 and extended it further in an attempt to curb growing air pollution in NCR.
